Privacy Policy for YouTube Comments Exporter

This Privacy Policy explains how YouTube Comments Exporter (“the Extension”) handles information when you use it in Chrome.

1. What this Extension does

The Extension helps you view and export YouTube comments from the video you’re browsing. It lets you download comments as CSV, JSON, or TXT, copy formatted text to your clipboard, and optionally open the exported content in third-party AI tools.

2. Information we collect

A) Data you choose to export

The Extension retrieves publicly available YouTube comments and related video metadata (e.g., title and thumbnail) for the videos you select. This content is processed on your device to produce export files.

B) Your optional feedback

If you choose to submit in-app feedback, you may provide:

  • Email (optional)
  • Feedback text
  • A browser-derived identifier (“visitorId”) generated by FingerprintJS to help prevent spam and associate submissions

If you do not submit feedback, this data is not collected.

C) Local settings and history

The Extension uses Chrome storage to save user preferences and UI state (for example, export settings). It also stores recent export/history information locally in your browser so you can view it later.

3. How we use information

  • To fetch YouTube comment data for the selected video(s)
  • To generate export files (CSV/JSON/TXT) and enable clipboard copy
  • To show your saved settings and local export history
  • To process optional feedback submissions and improve the Extension (including using the FingerprintJS visitorId to reduce spam)

4. Do we share your information?

We do not sell or transfer personal data to third parties for unrelated purposes. We may share information only as described below to provide the Extension’s functionality:

  • Supabase (developer backend) is used to fetch comment data and to receive optional feedback submissions.
  • FingerprintJS is used to generate the visitorId for feedback submission protection.
  • If you copy/export content to third-party AI tools (like Claude/ChatGPT), that transfer is done by you (your content is pasted into those tools). The Extension does not authenticate into those services.

5. Where your information is processed

Information provided in feedback may be processed and stored by our backend services (including Supabase). The location depends on the backend configuration for those services.

6. Data retention

We keep local settings and history on your device until you remove them or uninstall the Extension. Feedback submissions are kept only as long as needed for the purposes described above (support, troubleshooting, and improving the Extension).

7. Your choices

  • You can export or copy data at any time when using the Extension.
  • You can choose not to submit feedback, which means we do not collect feedback email/text or visitorId.
  • You can clear Chrome storage / uninstall the Extension to remove locally stored data.

8. Children’s privacy

The Extension is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
