How to add Smooth, Eye-Catching Scrolling Text to Your Shopify Store

Shopify text and logo scroller section, no apps
Reading Time

People ask me all the time how to add that looping strip of text or logos, the one you see on bigger brands, without a marquee app.

Long story short, this is a text scroller section. You can run text, images, or both in a continuous line. No app, no extra JS from a third party, and it loads with the rest of your theme.

If you only need promo text in the header, the scrolling announcement bar is the smaller version. This one is for logos, statements, that kind of thing. Last tested on Dawn in 2026.

Want to see it first? Here's a live demo.

Works on Dawn, Sense, Craft, Spotlight, Taste, Refresh and most OS 2.0 themes. Download a backup of the theme first. If something breaks, you can roll back in about 10 seconds.

This tutorial is compatible only with Shopify's official free themes: Colorblock, Craft, Crave, Dawn, Origin, Publisher, Refresh, Ride, Sense, Spotlight, Studio, Taste & Trade.

How to add it

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme you want to edit, click the 3 dots > Edit code.
  3. Open the sections folder and click Add a new section. Name it exactly ezfy-text-scroller. The file name and the section name have to match, otherwise Shopify won't load it.
  4. Paste this code, then save. This is the whole section, schema included:
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click the 3 dots > Customize.
  7. Click Add section and look for EZFY Text Scroller. Add it to the template you want.
  8. Add text or image blocks, then save.
  9. Save the theme.

If you prefer Shopify's own editor docs, they cover Edit code here: Edit your theme code.

How to customize it

Add text blocks, image blocks, or mix them. Direction, speed and pause on hover are in the section settings. Desktop and mobile can run at different speeds so it doesn't feel frantic on a phone.

This is the one I use for brand logos and short statements. For a thin promo bar under the header, use the scrolling announcement bar instead.

If the scroller doesn't show up

Check the section file name. It has to be ezfy-text-scroller.

In Customize, look for EZFY Text Scroller.

If images don't appear, they have to be added as blocks, not only in the section settings.

If you get stuck, tell me which theme you're on. That usually solves it.
